Moisture to Go by Gildentree.com
Nighttime Skin Treatment
There are twelve hours in the day, and above fifty in the night.
Marie de Rabutin-Chantal
The god Hermes

Did the aristocrat de Rabutin-Chantal mean the timelessness of our dreams or the endlessness of tossing and turning when they elude us?

If restful sleep escapes you, your skin is not getting the repair and regeneration it needs. Make sure that your nighttime skin care products are hard at work even when your dreams aren't.

Anne Lenox

Sweet dreams are made of this Who am I to disagree?

50-ist Anne Lennox knows what sweet dreams are all about and so can you. Don't let poor quality sleep zap your beauty or your health.

A poor night's sleep will show up on your face faster than the break of dawn. And not just any old sleep will do; deep restful sleep every night is necessary for optimum health.

Skin cell regeneration is slightly faster at night than during the day. Sheldon Pinnell, MD, Duke University

Sleep is a very busy wonderland where we cycle between four stages of REM (rapid eye movement) and NREM (non-rapid eye movement) sleep.

We enter the sleep state slowly in stage one. Here, we can be easily aroused and may experience sudden muscle contractions also known as hypnic jerks.

Gradually through stages two and three deep muscle relaxation takes place, the heart rate slows and our temperature drops.

Finally stage four, delta sleep, sends you to mystical lands and delightful animals...we hope.

It's in the deepest states of NREM sleep that our body repairs and regenerates tissues, bones and muscles, and where the immune system is revitalized. However, as we get older, we simply don't experience delta sleep as completely as in our youth.

As we age our sleep can become more disrupted with pain, hot flashes and bathroom trips. If we don't experience all stages of sleep, our body and skin will not get the regenerative benefits we need.

Try these 10 Tips from the Mayo Clinic and re-read #10; chemical sleep aids are not the solution!

Milk Thistle

Leave the sleeping pills at the drug store. There are so many reasons not to use them: side effects will destroy your health, a chemical-induced sleep will prevent the natural cyclic process and toxins will be visible on your face for as long as it takes the liver to flush them out.

If, on rare occasions, you must use pharmaceutics, please support the liver's effort to rid the toxins with milk thistle, a herb used in Europe for over 2,000 years for liver detoxification.

Less enthusiast for natural solutions to health care, the U.S., has more recently opened the research gates on milk thistle and agencies such as the National Cancer Institute and the National Institute of Nursing Research have been quietly singing the herb's praises.

Valerian

As long as the pharmacetuical company keep their checkbooks open to advertisers, you will be encouraged to use over-the-counter and prescription drugs. Resisting these efforts, will help keep your body toxin-free and your wallet full

Much better than drugs, Valerian is a safe herbal supplement that really works.
